The Kampanje is a school for young people aged 4 to 19 years. It is a small, cozy private school with a lot of attention for the individual.
Young people are naturally curious, inquisitive and motivated. Generally, in many schools you don't see those qualities in childern anymore. By the way education is structured in the majority of the schools, the own initiative, motivation to learn, and perseverance of young people is often undermined. Our experience is that this is not because of the nature of young people, but because of the way education is structured. A Sudbury school therefore approaches education in a very different way. Trust and respect are the foundation for the success of the school. Youngsters enjoy a complete intellectual freedom, and the unrestricted interaction with other youth and adults. By being responsible for themselves and for the operation of the school they develop the skills for effectively living their lives.
Children of 4 years still learn in a very natural way and are very used to this type of learning. For them the transition to a Sudbury school is still small. The age mixing of young and old is essential in this development.
At this school you will have to make sure you get things done yourself. It is a school where you learn to be entrepreneurial and where you learn skills that are necessary to succeed. This self-learning ability is one of the most valuable features for success in the future.
The school operates like the Sudbury Valley School in America, who has over 40 years of experience. There are now over 30 of these schools in the world. The Sudbury model works on basis of personal responsibility, self motivation and self-reliance. In the Netherlands, two other Sudbury schools are De Koers located in Beverwijk and The Merkaba Sudbury school in Tholen.
